Wake Up 03:55
Didn’t plan on waking Would have stayed in bed But something turned the light on In the dark parts of my head My house it has been haunted (oh-oh) I’ve been bright light, I’ve been blue (oh-oh) All I ever wanted Was to feel human like you Tired of feeling alone I focus on my chest Slow down my breathing And let magic do the rest And then something says The heart it is the portal And our souls they are immortal Remember who you are Remember what you are Wake up, wake up Wake up Wake up Let’s spin around the high road Divine treasures wait for us We are starseeds, we are golden Let’s board that cosmic bus Home home home Home Home Home The heart it is the portal And our souls they are immortal Remember who you are Remember what you are Home home home Let’s go home home home Take me home home home

In The Ether 03:44
Hey there, I see you hovering above my body Midnight cravings make me a little naughty I become sugar and smoke a spectre risen from her bones vaporized infinity where there's only you and me In the ether, whoa-wa-oh In the ether, whoa-wa-oh I will close my eyes, ooo-wa-oh Astral project my thighs, ooo-wa-oh In the ether, I'll meet you there In the ether, in the air In the ether I know you're dangerous I could lose my head Caught forever floating Between the living and the dead In the ether, whoa-wa-oh In the ether, whoa-wa-oh I will close my eyes, ooo-wa-oh Astral project my thighs, ooo-wa-oh In the ether, I'll meet you there In the ether, in the air In the ether And if I ever wanted to wish you away I would never close my eyes Cast a spell to keep me awake forever Because all dreaming leads to you In the ether, whoa-wa-oh In the ether, whoa-wa-oh I will close my eyes, ooo-wa-oh Astral project my thighs, ooo-wa-oh In the ether, I'll meet you there In the ether, in the air In the ether In the ether In the ether

Blood Moon 03:52
Neighbors keep howling Dogs won’t stop growling There’s red in the sky We don’t ask why Blood moon Pass over me Blood moon Set my demons free Can’t get the stain out Embarrassed to tell you what that about We don’t ask why You like when I lie Blood moon Pass over me Blood moon Set my demons free You’re sick as your secrets But secrets still show I carry mine with me My resistance to bullshit is low Blood moon Pass over me Blood moon Set my demons free Neighbors stopped howling Dogs stopped their growling There’s red still in that sky We don’t ask why Blood moon Pass over me Blood moon Set my spirit free Blood moon

Text Me Back 02:46
Text me back, text me back Before the moment’s through Text me back, text me back Before I re-text you What are we doing tonight We gonna start another fight It says delivered on my screen Do you wanna hear how loud I can scream I know you saw it too Because when I’m with you You check it every chance I only get half of your glances baby One eye is on me The other’s on your device If you don’t reply right now I can’t guarantee nice babe Caught in a ditch Left in someone else’s bed Is it just your phone that’s dead Or you? Text me back, text me back Before the moment’s through Text me back, Text me back Don’t make me come for you

Shoulda gotten on that train All those years ago Should have run to you in the rain Instead of staying dry alone Could have been a great life together The kind that wakes your sleeping heart Would have loved you forever Instead of making these lives apart Cause I loved you, and I Don’t think I told you clearly I Loved you, with everything inside of me I Loved you so purely Shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda Shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda Now we’re in separate worlds Even though you’re just in the next town over I still think of you Think I should have been your lover Would have been your everything And served you my soul for breakfast Could have been your baby’s mama Maybe been saved by your kiss Cause I loved you, and I Don’t think I told you clearly I Loved you, with everything inside of me I Loved you so purely Shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda Gotten on that train for you Shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda But I didn’t and I wish I had, baby, I wish I had All the time now Baby how I wish I had Shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda Shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda

Out in the desert The wind it did howl It uncovered things I thought Were buried by now Stirring up dust storms On the floor of my heart Everything you do Is art Find me Find me Take these bones To the sea The end of slavery Can’t take the history Off of my face Lineage of pain Easy to re-trace Of captive Of breeders Tequila And bleeders Surviving the desert The winds made them fly Find me Find me Take these bones To the sea The end of slavery Is in me

about

ONCE NINA’s debut EP, “Pyramid Heart” (produced by Meghan Toohey) is a bewitching tour de force of alt-mystic-dream-pop in the tradition of Stevie Nicks & Mazzy Star—with PJ Harvey-esque edge.
The songs are both a call to action & a healing balm to the magic-hungry heart. Nina Kurtz’s emotive vocals act as incantations—powerful, searing & true, bringing key moments into focus with her chill-inducing vibrato. Toohey’s production is tasteful & tender, moving from artfully sparse to pleasurably lush. Shimmering keys & occasional haunting lapsteel cascade over gritty guitar, settling like a spell over a bed of dynamic rhythms.
Lyrically, Kurtz explores topics as timely as technology addiction (“I only get half of your glances baby / one eye is on me / the other’s on your device…”) and as timeless as psychological enslavement (“Can’t take the history off of my face / lineage of pain easy to retrace.”)
“Pyramid Heart” is a transportive six-song journey of personal revelation & cosmic awakening, brightened by a generous helping of playful whimsy. Cathartic & lovingly crafted, with hooks that call the listener back for more, Kurtz leaves us with an empowering message (“take these bones to the sea / the end of slavery is in me.”) ONCE you start listening, this Pyramid will nest in your heart.
